American Pastor Welcomes Guns in Church

"I think when people first learned about this invitation to wear guns to church, many people were deeply troubled," said Terry Taylor, one of the organizers. "The idea of wearing guns to churches or any sacred space I think many people find deeply troubling."

And, um, no one thought to ask why? If they did, it wasn't mentioned in the article.
At what point does "selling out" just not begin to cover the issues?
Even more troubling: this pastor draws 150 people a week to his services.

  • Under Missouri law and other states in the US, ordained ministers are allowed to authorize or prohibit handguns in their congregations. This is a legal right granted by the state to ordained ministers.

According to the First Presidency's new policy concerning same-sex marriages, apparently state-granted rights to ordained ministers, are subject to FP review and consent. It also appears the FP is conditioning that consent on whether there is also affirmative authority in Church scripture or World Conference action authorizing such action.

I can't think of any - therefore I assume that pastors in CofC congretations have no right to deny or authorize handguns in our congregations until such time as the FP has been able to discuss the appropriateness of this policy. Obviously, to maintain the integrity of the policy, during this discussion period, I suspect all pastors should refrain from taking any position on handguns.

  • Guns in church? Oil and water. Unbelievable, and yet at the same time totally believable. People will do anything.

  • I wonder why do they need to wear guns while in church. This is really a big question to me of what motivation did they have in their guns, for what to protect themselves? I think we don't need any weapon because God is our great protector.
